Core Partnership in Canada FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Core Partnership in Canada

  1. Do I need a Passport?
  2. A passport valid for a minimum of one month past your travel into Canada is required for non-Canadian citizens. Travel from the U.S. is NOT permitted without one.

  3. What is the schedule for the workshop?
  4. Core Partnership begins at 10 AM on the first day of the program, and at 9 AM on all remaining days. The program is in session until approximately 6 PM each day. If you are traveling from out of town, you will need to arrive one day prior to the course start date, and usually depart on the day following the course end date.

  5. For what dates should I book my flights?
  6. You must arrive 1 day prior to the course start date. We strongly recommend departing 1 day after the course end date. While "Red Eye" flights are sometimes available out of the Edmonton International Airport, we cannot guarantee your arrival in time, especially for international flights.

  7. Where do participants stay?
  8. All participants are encouraged to book lodging in Stony Plain. There are 3 facilities within one block of each other and the Core Partnership daily shuttle will pick you up at the Best Western Sunrise Inn & Suites each course day. If you stay at other motels nearby, the walk to Best Western is about one block.

  9. How many nights do I need a hotel room?
  10. You will need to book a hotel in Stony Plain for a minimum of 4 nights, beginning the night prior to your course start date.

For a flight out the day after your course ends, you'll need a 5th night, either in Stony Plain or near the Edmonton airport. (The Core shuttle will take you to Stony Plain or the Edmonton airport area, 1 hour away, on the final course date evening only.)

  11. How do I get to Stony Plain, Alberta from the Edmonton International Airport?
  12. Stony Plain is a small community about 40 minutes from Edmonton. Several taxi and shuttle services are available from the airport. Airport Taxi Service offers a $99 service from Edmonton Airport to Stony Plain, Alberta.

  13. Can I drive a rental car to the facility each day?
  14. Due to at least 8 miles of unpaved roads between Stony Plain and the Sawatzky Equine Services' facility (approximately 30 minutes north), we strongly recommend using the Core daily shuttle. Variable weather effects these roads and can cause unfamiliar or inadequate vehicles to experience significant difficulties.

  15. Are campgrounds available?
  16. Memory Lane Campground & RV Park is 2.5 miles from the Sawatzky Equine Services facility. Participants staying at the campground are responsible for their transportation to and from the course location on unpaved roads. Please let us know if you intend to camp, so that we can provide you with the facility location.

  17. Where do I go for dinners?
  18. Restaurants, Services and Shopping are all within walking and brief shuttle distance in Stony Plain. For a complete list please visit Stony Plain Chamber of Commerce.

  19. Is there a Reviewer Price for Core Partnership?
  20. While many graduates have taken Core Partnership more than once, due to very limited spaces in the course, there is no reviewer discount.

Frequently Asked Questions About Working with Horses

  1. Do I need to like horses to benefit from this course?
  2. No, you don't need to like them. They will train you with powerful, clear, immediate feedback regardless of how you feel about them.

  3. What if I'm afraid of horses?
  4. Fear is often a result of Objectification, one of the biggest barriers to Partnership. Fear is fine if you're committed to working through it and are willing to receive support. As you recognize the distinct, amazing BEING on the other end of the rope, awaiting your partnership, you won't ever be the same.

  5. What if I'm allergic to horses?
  6. Depending upon the severity of the allergic reaction, you may be able to prevent or address it with medication. Other participants have done so. At all times, you are responsible for your wellbeing.

  7. Do I need prior horse experience to take this course?
  8. No prior experience is necessary. This is a course in partnership, not horsemanship.

  9. Will we ride the horses?
  10. The coursework with the horses will happen on the ground, face-to-face and side-by-side with your four-legged partner. This provides the best kinesthetic experience and development of your ability to communicate, create trust, release accountability and own space.
